Exhibition
Fernando Botero

The autumn season promises to be exciting for visitors to Palazzo Pallavicini: the evocative halls of the splendid historic building in Bologna, located at Via San Felice 24, just steps from the Two Towers and Piazza Maggiore, will host a major exhibition dedicated to Colombian artist FERNANDO BOTERO from October 12, 2019, to January 26, 2020.

The exhibition will feature a collection of 50 unique works never before seen in the Emilia-Romagna region, including a series of mixed-media drawings and a valuable set of color watercolors on canvas. Organized into seven sections, the exhibition reflects the themes dear to Fernando Botero and highlights his poetic vision of the world, presenting a beauty made of abundant volumes, enveloping colors, and original iconographies. It is a visionary ode to existence that delves into drawing as a fundamental form, a primary and essential tool of beauty.

The selected subjects include characters related to bullfighting and the circus, silent and balanced still lifes, delicate nudes, religious figures, and individuals captured in their daily lives. This visual showcase considers Botero’s intense visual exploration, aiming to affirm his distinctive language.

Among the displayed works, the secrets of life are hidden beneath corpulent forms, whether people or objects awaiting a random or deliberate movement. Balancing irony and nostalgia, dreamlike atmospheres and fairy-tale reality, Italian classicism and South American culture, Botero’s art creates and conveys a figurative and personal style that continues to engage and captivate viewers.

Creative freedom and monumentality are the common threads of the exhibition, whose setup was designed in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, directed by Prof. Enrico Fornaroli, and realized with the Biennio Specialistico in Scenography and Exhibition Design, thanks to Prof. Enrico Aceti, Prof. Rosanna Fioravanti, Prof. Michele Chiari, and Dr. Erasmo Masetti, along with students Alessandro Barbera, Larissa Candido Bergamaschi, Cecilia Giovine, Ester Grigoli, Sarah Menichini, Bianca Piacentini, Rossella Pisani, Elena Romagnani, and Tatiana Sànchez Sandoval.
