Press Release:
Born in a small town in Scotland to a family of Italian descent, Jack Vettriano started working at an early age to contribute to the family finances and it was only at the age of twenty-one that he began to paint as a self-taught artist, having received a set of brushes and watercolours as a gift. Almost fifteen years later, he was able to exhibit in a professional art environment and during his debut exhibition, on the first day of the show, both of his paintings presented were sold, starting his prestigious career.
Â
His paintings are reminiscent of the noir genre, often with romantic themes and nudes in the foreground, and with his distinctive style evoking sensual atmospheres and scenic dimensions, Vettriano has been able to captivate the general public since his first exhibition in 1988 at the Royal Scottish Academy. Since then and up to the present day, interest in his work has steadily increased and in 2004 Queen Elizabeth awarded him the OBE for services to the visual arts.
Palazzo Pallavicini offers for the first time to the Italian public the opportunity to delve into the figure of one of the best-selling and most reproduced artists of all time, through an itinerary that alternates more than 70 works including oils, limited edition graphics created especially for Palazzo Pallavicini and the splendid shots in Jack Vettriano's studio taken by Francesco Guidicini, official portraitist of the ‘Sunday Times’ whose works are present at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
Since 2017, Pallavicini Srl has been organising and hosting exhibitions of artists of international stature inside Palazzo Pallavicini, with a careful eye on the Italian artistic heritage, from photography to modern and contemporary art.
